Metal Braided Hose and Hose Assemblies
United Flexible’s core business is metal braided hose assemblies with a heritage dating back to over one hundred years. Our global facilities offer a broad range of corrugated inner core diameters and designs, multi braiding capabilities and engineered assembly expertise. The metal braided hose is made from precision thin walled metallic strip which is formed and seam welded into a tube and then corrugated to form a flexible metal hose. United Flexible offers the ability to form the corrugations with a self-draining helical design or a more robust and flexible annular design. These corrugated hoses are available with a ¼” diameter (6mm) and larger.
These metallic hoses are usually braided to give strength when the hose is pressurized and to provide a solid protective cover during use. Multiple braid layers can increase working pressure as well as with corrugation shape, profile, wall thickness and material type. With differing engineering techniques involved and excellent burst strength-to-wall thickness ratio, these hoses are relatively lightweight compared to equivalent non-metallic hose alternatives in the market.
United Flexible’s metallic hose manufacturing operations in the United States and United Kingdom both offer ISO 9001 and AS 9000 certified processes and procedures. Some metallic hoses are engineered and designed to ISO 10380 while others conform to the design codes of EJMA and ASME Section VIII that meet the requirements of the boiler, pressure and piping codes of B31.1 and B31.3.
Our global workforce of ASME IX certified welders are backed with rigorous testing methods that involve high pressure nitrogen or helium gases as well as dye penetrant weld examination, radiographic examination, mass spectrometer testing, and third party independent witness testing if required.
Wide Range of Materials
We can recommend and manufacture the proper hose and braid materials to meet your strength, flexibility, environmental, media compatibility and cost requirements. Typical materials such as 316L and 321 stainless steel can withstand extreme variations in temperature ranging from very low to high temperatures; i.e. from cryogenic up to 1500°F (815°C). These metallic hoses do not diffuse gases or liquids and are liquid tight; they provide excellent chemical and corrosion resistance as well as high mechanical strength. More corrosion or temperature resistant alloys are also available such as Monel® 400 and Hastelloy® C-276 that can be used in chlorine environments and Inconel® 625 can be used in high temperature gas turbines.
